Our History: From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leaders
The story of Scherer Inc. began in the early 1990s when Bob Scherer was working at Shakstad’s Machine Shop in Sioux Falls, SD. During this time, Bob saw an opportunity when Shakstad’s decided to sell off the portion of the business dedicated to reconditioning mill rolls.
In 1994, Bob seized the moment and established Scherer Corrugating and Machine in a modest shop outside of Tea, SD, with only 1-2 part-time employees.
In 30 years we’ve grown to over 90 employees and produce products for several different industries and customer groups. Our Mill Roll Division specializes in reconditioning chilled cast mill and flaker rolls for the feed, soy, and flour production industries. We produce new rolls for all makes, brands, and models of roller mills and roll stands, sharpen dull rolls, offer onsite service/exchange for feed mills, and sell new chilled cast rolls. We also produce replacement hardened steel rolls for the cattle feed industry.
Scherer currently supports the Mill Roll Division with locations in Sioux Falls, SD, Caldwell, ID and Orrville, OH.
The second division is the Kernel Processor Division, created in 1999. This division specializes in kernel processors for self-propelled forage harvesters. We work with large OEMs, distributors, and dealers worldwide.
This product line consists of complete kernel processor systems and replacement rolls for most kernel processors.
The third division is our Roller Mill Division. On April 1st, 2023, Scherer purchased Iowa Farm Automation (IFA) in Stanley, IA. IFA was a 40-year-old company that focused on feed production machinery. For the past 20 years, IFA has manufactured commercial and industrial roller mills. Scherer was very familiar with the IFA product line since they have been our customers for the past 20 years. Scherer now offers a full product line of roller mills and will continue to develop new products to serve the feed and specialty grinding industries.
